Seasons Greetings 2011
Friends and Family;
It has been another busy year for the Canada to Mombasa Scholarship fund. I would like to start out by saying thank you to everyone who has donated over the course of the last year and to those who take the time to comment on facebook or twitter posts, visit our website and show support for what we are doing.
As I sit here on the couch surrounded by paper work and letters from students, I can’t help but feel so completely thankful for the amazing friends, family and acquaintances who have made this possible. Students who faced almost impossible odds with little or no family for support are now gaining a full education, taking part in daily learning, sports, extra curricular activities and enjoying what life should be like for a student. I was inspired by the many youth I met while in Mombasa, youth who had so little, but still gave everything they had back to their community. Most of these youth could not afford to attend school but wanted so badly to gain an education and have a fighting chance in the world so that they too could make a difference. This scholarship fund has made that possible for these students.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to Michael Kalu our local officer. If it were not for his hard work, this scholarship fund would not be possible. While attending school himself, he has organized the delivery of cheques to schools, purchased much needed books and school supplies for students, arranged for students to get to and from school and helped our students stay on track with their studies. Mike’s hard work is a large part of what keeps me inspired to continue supporting students in Mombasa.
I hope this letter finds all of you surrounded by family and friends this holiday season. Your donations have made this scholarship fund possible and we hope we can continue to count on your support in the years to come. On behalf of all of the students I would like to say thank you so much, and the best of the season to all.
Sincerely;
Jessie Gresley-Jones

Friends and Family;
It has been another successful year for our Canada to Mombasa Youth Scholarship Fund, thanks to friends and family who continue to support and believe in our cause.
My role continues to be secretary, doing most of the banking and the book keeping for the charity. There is however, a lot of collaborating throughout each year between Jessie, myself, and Mike, our ground officer in order for everything to run smoothly.
We have now been registered with Revenue Canada for one fiscal year and have headed into our second fiscal year. I completed the 2010-2011 Registered Information Return successfully this spring and not being much of a bookkeeper, I fretted over the lengthy return for days!
I am so pleased that we have not only been able to continue supporting all of the students from last year, but have managed to support several new students. The young boy, who inspired Jessie to begin this scholarship fund will be entering his final year of high school this January. These accomplishments mean a great deal to me. Hopefully the coming school year will be as successful for our students as the past have been.
Please call if you have any questions or you can find information about our charity at: http://canadamombasascholarshipfund.weebly.com/
Thanks again for all your support and have a wonderful holiday season with family and friends.
Sincerely;

Update December 29, 2010
Merry Christmas from The Canada to Mombasa Youth Scholarship Fund!
Well it is that time of the year again and we wanted to send a quick Merry Christmas and Happy New Years message to everyone! We have had a very successful year with the Canada to Mombasa Youth Scholarship fund and we owe it all to the wonderfully generous donations we have received from so many of you.
This time of the year is very busy for us as the Kenyan school year begins in January. However, we have received so many donations this year that we are accepting a number of new students to the program. We continue to sponsor 5 secondary students between grade 8-12, 4 of whom, this will be there third school year receiving scholarships from us. We also had our first graduate last month as Michael (our local officer) successfully completed his tests and graduated from his program!!
Because of the many donations we have received this year we were also able to accept another college student earlier in the year. She enrolled in september for a one year diploma program in Mombasa.
Currently we are in the process of enrolling an additional 4 secondary students and 1 university student into schools around Mombasa. Our new university student will be enrolling in a poly technical school located in Mombasa and entering the Journalism and Communications program. Our 4 secondary students will be placed in a variety of schools around Mombasa and the local Coast Province.
Michael Kalu continues to work for us as our local officer and has been an amazing help this year distributing, collecting and interviewing applicants and helping to select schools for incoming students. He also continues to update us on the status of our ongoing students and helps us purchase new school uniforms, books and school supplies as needed.
We have been striving to keep our charity website up to date and looking to improve the site to make it more accessible to a larger number of people. We were recently featured on the Youth Challenge International Blog which helped spread the word!http://ycicanada.wordpress.com/category/overseas-programs/kenya/
I hope this message finds all of you in good health and relaxed after the holiday season. Thank you so much for your continuing support. Your donations make a world of difference for our students in kenya!
Thank you so much
