Supporters: The Canada to Mombasa Youth Scholarship Fund (CMYSF) was created to help youth in Mombasa, Kenya to realize their full potential by supporting them in their pursuit of education. This includes both secondary school and post secondary studies. It is the belief of those involved that education is the key to empowerment and that having a complete education will improve ones ability and potential in society.

Applicants: This scholarship fund is intended to help youth who have no financial means of funding their education and provide them with the opportunity to pursue their educational goals. The scholarship fund also provides support by mentoring the youth in their pursuit of education.

Preference will be given to those youth whose parent, or parents are deceased, or who do not live with, or gain financial support from their parents. Proof of parental income or of a guardian’s income is required as a determining factor of each applicant’s needs.

Once students have been accepted to receive a scholarship, our local program officer Mike, helps them decide on a suitable school and make all necessary arrangements. Often they do not have any family members to accompany them to the school so Mike will go with them and ensure they are settled.
Our preference is to find boarding schools for all of our students. This ensures they have a safe place to live, access to three meals a day, access to water and no distractions from their school studies. Although tuition is more for boarding schools, we think it is worth the added cost!

We are currently providing full scholarships to 7 youth. These include 5 secondary students and 2 post secondary. We hope to increase the numbers this coming year while maintaining our support for the 7 we have already committed our support towards.
